Born in Calgary, Canada, Andrea Hill completed a Bachelor's of Music - with high distinction - at McGill University, and a Master's of Music at the University of Maryland. In 2007, after making her European début singing the title role of Rossini's La Cenerentola in Hof, Germany, she would join the Atelier Lyrique of the Paris National Opera, the company with which she would subsequently launch her career, debuting professionally on the stage of the Palais Garnier as Varvara in Janacek's Katia Kabanova in 2011. Other young artist programs in which Ms Hill took part included Calgary Opera's Emerging Artist Program, Ravinia Festival's Steans Institute, and the Académie with the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.
Ms Hill's operatic career includes : Carmen with l'Opéra de Tours, Dido with l'Opéra de Dijon, Orphée with l'Opéra Théâtre de Metz, Komponist with l'Opéra National de Lorraine, Octavian in exerpts of Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées under the baton of Kurt Masur... With the Opéra National de Paris, she has sung many roles, including Hänsel from Humperdink's Hänsel und Gretel, Diane in Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie with Emmanuelle Haïm, Krista from Janacek's The Makropulos Affair, Der Gymnasiast in Berg's Lulu.... An original cast member of Patrice Chéreau's final production - Strauss' Elektra - Ms. Hill has sung the Zweitte Magd and Schleppeträgerin in Aix-en-Provence, at La Scala in Milan, and at the Liceu in Barcelona. She would make her Metropolitan Opera début singing the Dritte Magd and Schleppeträgerin in the same production, and would be invited to cover Stephano in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, also at the Met. Under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ms Hill would sing four roles in L'enfant et les sortilèges at Royal Festival Hall, in London. In 2016, she would début at the Royal Opera House in London, singing Flora in their renowned production of Verdi's La Traviata. Back in Canada, Andrea has most recently sung Rosina in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, both with Calgary and Manitoba Operas.
Upcoming projects include Handel's Messiah with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Florida Orchestra, and two "prises de rôles": Despina (Mozart, Così fan tutte) with the Opéra de Dijon, and Mélisande (Debussy, Pelléas et Mélisande) with Opera Southwest in New Mexico.
